A Sense of Place

You have settled on a location that seems just right. It was a big decision, and you weighed your options carefully. Often that choice reveals something about your style, or your shared values and interests as a couple. When I paint at a wedding, I notice the details that make your venue unique. It is just as if I were painting a portrait of that special place in time.

I have painted at all kinds of weddings, from playful to practical. Some are full of family traditions, others quirky and off-beat. Have you decided you want the abundant feel of cascades of roses, or the simplicity of autumn leaves and sunflowers? Whether you go for feathers and glitter or pumpkins and barn boards, I will seek out these special touches so that the painting portrays the personality of your wedding celebration.

Artistic License

As a live event artist I will be busy painting all evening. I set myself up in a strategic location, then wait and watch. I notice and paint all the different bits of the celebration and make them harmonize in a single composition. To do this I will have to use my imagination to make things fit together.  

Everything is in motion. The bride and groom whirl past. Uncle Bud makes a speech. Everyone eats and gets merry. What? The cake’s already being cut? The band is playing a slow dance, then a fast one. People crowd the dance floor. A line dance (rhumba?) snakes around the room. The lights dim.  

This party might go from dusk until midnight, but in my final painting on canvas all those many moments will add up to one great big memory.

People-watching

I have been attending and painting happy occasions for more than a decade. Before that I spent a lot of time painting portraits of children and families. That is why I pay particular attention to human gestures and faces when painting live. My pictures might include more than 50 people, so of course I cannot paint a portrait of every guest—however—a special note to brides and grooms: You will recognize yourselves, guaranteed!
