Frequently Asked Questions

What is so special about live event painting?
A painting done on location evolves on the canvas just as the event unfolds around us. Gail is especially interested in finding the vitality in a scene. She is able to capture the atmosphere and essence of your event. When you commission Gail to paint your special occasion, you are adding a subtle form of entertainment to your event. Guests watch the evolution of the painting with great interest and enthusiasm.

Which events lend themselves to live painting?
Weddings, receptions, concerts, outdoor gatherings, art openings, family reunions, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, fund-raisers—any celebratory gathering can be captured for posterity.

How do I go about deciding whether to have Gail paint at my event?
Contact Gail to discuss details, including the date and location of your event, the size of the artwork, and the time available for painting. The artist is also available for a preliminary meeting at your location or at her studio to see more examples of her work. You will receive a detailed estimate after your consultation.

How do I reserve my event date?
Your date will be formally reserved upon receipt of a deposit. Live Event Paintings is happy to put a no-obligation reserve on your event date until the deposit is received.

What medium does the artist use?
Gail paints with acrylics on a stretched canvas. Acrylic paints are water-based, have the same brilliance as traditional oils, and allow a spontaneous, fluid brush technique. They dry quickly, which is critical for painting on location.

How much space does the artist need to work?
Easel, canvas, and equipment can be set up in approximately a 4' x 6' area, indoors or out.

Can I have a say in how the painting will look?
If you have any special requests or preferences feel free to discuss them with the artist at the consultation. Gail is always open to suggestions, and you will be able to see examples of her past work to help you visualize the final outcome.

When will the painting be finished?
A live event painting is usually completed within the timeframe of the event and returned to the artist's studio for finishing touches. Final delivery takes place 3 to 6 months after the event.

How do I frame my painting?
Once the painting is finished, Gail can recommend frame styles and handle the framing for you. Go to Extras to see a description of framing, reproduction, and notecard services.
